ASSE Alaska Chapter History
The Alaska Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE-AK) was chartered September 20, 1974 after holding an initial organizational meeting on February 12, 1974. The chapter started with 55 petitioning members. The Alaska Chapter initially included all ASSE members throughout the state. The chapter has grown and contracted with the "boom and bust" Alaska economy. At times, the Chapter had active sections in Southeast Alaska, the North Slope, and Kenai Peninsula.
The Alaska Chapter now continues to serve most of the State of Alaska (excluding the Fairbanks area where the Midnight Sun Chapter is active) and has an active Student Section at the University of Alaska. Membership is over 170 professionals throughout the state.
