Alaska ASSE March 2018 Luncheon: National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)

Please join us on Tuesday, March 20, 2018, from 11:30am – 1pm, for our monthly ASSE luncheon meeting.  Remember, we are now meeting at the Petroleum Club of Anchorage, which is located at 3301 C Street, Suite 120, Anchorage, AK  99503.

After networking with your peers, we will have an opportunity to learn from Devin Lucas, PhD, Injury Epidemiologist, Western States Division, Alaska Office, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).

Devin will be leading a presentation on the NIOSH’s role as the federal agency responsible for conducting scientific research on occupational safety and health in the US. NIOSH has operated a small office in Anchorage since 1991 to focus on helping the State of Alaska reduce hazards in high-risk industries such as commercial aviation, logging, and fishing.  In addition to those emphasis areas, NIOSH staff in Anchorage track and study all occupational fatalities in the State to study trends and measure progress.  This presentation will provide an overview of NIOSH research on occupational safety in Alaska, present the most up-to-date statistics on fatalities, and describe future directions of NIOSH research in Alaska.

In addition to the Petroleum Club’s soup of the day, you have two choices for an entrée.  Both entrées will be served with two chef selected sides.  Cost (with meal): $20.00 if you RSVP, $25.00 without an RSVP, $10.00 for ASSE Student Members, Coffee only: $3.00.

     Option 1:  Grilled New York Strip Steak, 8 oz. topped with sautéed mushrooms and caramelized onions

     Option 2:  Eggplant Parmigiana, with Pomodoro Sauce over whole wheat carrot gnocchi
